Everybody keeps on talking about the right first date questions to ask on TikTok.

But they are missing out key piece of info…

You can’t afford a first date…

Anyway, here are the best interview questions to ask:

If I were interviewing for a role at Barclays/HSBC, I’d ask something like:

“I understand that Trump’s new tariffs could hit some sectors and help others, so I’m curious to know how that policy shift affects advising clients and the structuring of deals moving forward?”

For Centrica, I’d ask:

“With energy markets still pretty volatile and the shift to renewables accelerating, how does Centrica balance investing in new green projects while keeping prices competitive for customers?”

Notice how I didn’t just ask the question straight up, but provided my perspective first by showing my understanding.

Because you are kinda supposed to know the answer to the questions you are asking through your research.

For Banking, you can reference a recent deal they advised on.

For general industries, you can reference an insight from their annual report that you find interesting.

E.g. “What would you say is often overlooked as a key skill to really excel in this role?”

Then the final question can be something about the actual interviewer.

E.g. “So what made you pursue a career in this Banking/Energy/Relevant Industry…”

The more specific the better, because it shows that you also took a keen interest in them, and people love talking about themselves and feeling special.
